Carbeto de Silício

Silicon Carbide is a material with high resistance to erosion, corrosion and high thermal cycling. Produced with ultra-fine grains, it has high hardness, lightness, purity, high thermal conductivity and low coefficient of thermal expansion. It has a compression resistance 10x higher than its tensile strength. It is 50% harder than Tungsten Carbide and 10x harder than treated stainless steels. This extreme hardness combined with high purity and fine microstructure makes Silicon Carbide highly resistant to erosive wear. Its low porosity and chemical inertness allow it to work very well in environments with hot gases and liquids, oxidizing and corrosive atmospheres such as strong acids and alkalis, even at extremely high temperatures (1,900◦C). It can also be used in food processes because it is non-contaminating (approved by the North American FDA). Among the most frequent applications, we can mention: burner components, ovens and parts subject to high temperatures, heat exchangers, rings for mechanical seals, valves and related parts, nozzles, sprayers and components of shot blasting machines, bearings, pipes and components subject to chemical processes, bushings and grids subject to erosion, corrosion and high temperatures, components used in the food industry.
